Harvest of the Past and Taste of Heritage Food Fest

Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (near Edmonton, Alberta)

There's no better way to prepare for the coming of fall than by soaking in what's billed as "one of the best autumn events in Canada."

This popular event combines a traditional harvest celebration (including demonstrations of traditional harvesting methods) with a local food festival. Visitors can browse exhibits, shop the village market, or sample traditional Ukrainian fare and locally produced treats like venison 'deer dogs'. Entertainment includes square dancing, musical acts, and the "4th annual Kalyna Idol talent competition."

For further information, visit the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village website or call 780.662.3640.

Alberta Arts Days

September 17, 18, and 19, 2010

What's going on in the local arts scene? Alberta Arts Days, a three-day, multi-event, province-wide festival celebrating Alberta artists, gives locals and visitors the opportunity to "discover, experience and celebrate the arts."  Activities showcase art and artists of all types, and include events as widely varied as outdoor concerts, costume parties, film festivals, poetry readings, art auctions and markets, and talks by published writers. There are plenty of family-oriented events, including festivals and kid-centered workshops.

Libraries, historic sites, museums, and cultural heritage centers will also be offering special workshops and programs. And be sure to check out Alberta's "provincially owned historic sites and museums," as admission will be free for the duration of the festival.

For more information on Arts Days events in your area, visit the Alberta Arts Days website.
