The Persons Case Scholarships were established in 1979 to mark the 50th anniversary of the “Persons Case” victory. The scholarships are awarded by Community Development and funded by the Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund. Scholarships ranging in amounts from $1,000 to $5,000 are awarded each December to students whose studies and career goals will ultimately contribute to the advancement of women, or those who are studying in fields where members of their gender are traditionally few in number. Both men and women may apply for the scholarships.

ROGER SODERSTROM SCHOLARSHIP

Deadline: There are two application deadlines: September 1st and February 1st.

The Roger Soderstrom Scholarship assists student research at the graduate or extended study program level in the fields of architectural preservation; urban planning and conservation; heritage resource management; archaeology; history or palaeontology. It is open to candidates who are Canadian citizens and have been Alberta residents for at least six months prior to application. Normally up to $3,000 is available every year through an endowment. There are two application deadlines: September 1st and February 1st.

STARS OF THE MILLENNIUM

Volunteerism Awards Program. The Wild Rose Foundation established Stars of the Millennium to honour individuals recognized by community organizations and their peers for giving of their time and to their community through volunteerism. The awards program includes categories for youth, adult and seniors. Nomination forms are distributed across Alberta in early June. The awards are presented annually on December 5th, International Volunteer Day.
