WHAT’S NEW ON PRIMETIME
THE AMAZING RACE
The new season will begin Tuesday, Nov. 16th, 2004.
THE APPRENTICE 2 Thursday, Sept. 9th, 2004
Last week, Raj was fired for knocking out a wall in a four bedroom home and hiring a contractor that couldn’t finish the job. Chris couldn’t keep his hostility toward the team quiet, and was nominated to be the next project manager for Apex.
This week, Chris begins the episode by trying to fix the hostilities within his team. On Mosaic, everyone wants to be project manager, but since no one can decide, they draw, again.
THE TASK: At Tavern on the Green (a restaurant in the middle of Central park), Trump tells the teams that they will be taking an empty space and creating a bridal shop. In a one time bridal sale of four hours, the team with the highest sales wins. Reminder: Sandy’s business is a bridal shop.
MOSAIC: Kelly is project manager, and Sandy is on this team. The plan is to have other retailers negotiate offers for outdated wares and solicit women who are registered to be married to attend their “sale.” Sandy, Andy and Kelly go into existing bridal shops and offer to take all of their “discontinued gowns,” which turns into a very successful strategy. In the meantime, Wes and Maria are left alone to do all of the marketing chores. Over 23,000 emails go out to brides in the area, but the ad had no contact information on it.
Later, Maria is found to be responsible for sending the ad without a phone number. When picking up the dresses, not only does Wes smash the van into a truck parked on the side of the road, but when they open up the back, the dresses have been tossed all over. Sandy gives Kelly crap for having her do too much.
APEX: Chris is project manager. His strategy is to pack the space with people who already sell bridal wear, which he is unable to do. When he finds this out, he throws in the towel. Jennifer M, however, takes control, and makes contact with quite a few vendors. She becomes quite agitated with Chris’s disinterest in the bridal field. In the meantime, Ivana and Kevin meet with an expert who agrees to help them in any way she can.
THE SCORES: The video footage of each team’s consumer base is hilarious. Mosaic had a line up all the way down the block prior to opening their doors, while Apex had only 3 customers. Mosaic sold 27 dresses for a profit of $12,788.94, while Apex only sold 2 dresses for a profit of $1,060.47. Mosaic’s reward is to go to Graff Jewelers (where Trump bought his fiancée’s wedding ring) where they will be allowed to select $50,000 dollars worth of merchandise.
BOARDROOM: Before even going into the boardroom, there is agreement within the teammates’ and my own mind that it’s time for Chris to go. I hope it’ll be quick and painless. After discussion about the team’s apparent disadvantage (which Carolyn says do not exist), Chris selects Jen to go back to the suite, claiming that she did the best on the task.
Before round two, George, Carolyn, and Trump discuss the lack of effort of everyone on the team. Carolyn suggests that they all should be sent home. In the waiting room, Kevin and Ivana criticize Chris for letting Jennifer go back up to the suite. During round two, the comment is made that Ivana has been found in the boardroom quite a few times. Her retaliation is that Chris complains too much, to which Kevin agrees. Trump attacks Chris for his big mouth last week, and his choice to save Jennifer. Chris is fired.
Next week: Eight remain; the competition gets personal, a revealing task including models, a guest appearance by Billy Joel, and a boardroom session that doesn’t end.

SURVIVOR:VANUATU – Thursdays – 9pm on CBS
Last week, Rory expressed concern about being the only male on his tribe, right before the tribal merge. Sarge won the first individual immunity, after which the tribe named themselves Alinta, and feasted in celebration. Amy expressed her certainty of an all-woman alliance, which was verified when Rory was voted out six to four.
This week, Twila admits that she heard that the guys told both herself and Julie that they’d go with them to the final four, while Sarge expresses his hurt and remorseful feelings. Scout sings, and the creative designers of the show play music of doom along with her voice. It’s morbid.
REWARD CHALLENGE: Using a generic answer cube, tribe members must answer questions about the Vanuatu culture. Each question answered correctly permits a tribe member to light another’s torch. Each member has three torches; when all three are lit the castaway is eliminated. Sarge is the first eliminated, followed by Chad, Chris, Eliza (who reacts with malice), Julie, Scout, Ami, and Twila, leaving Leann the winner of the challenge.
The prize: a helicopter ride of a lifetime to the top of a volcano and some wicked views, and a picnic of champagne and chicken wings. But, the trip isn’t much fun alone, so Leann takes Julie. She later explains that her choice stems from her uncertainty about where Julie’s head was in terms of the game.
On the peak of a volcano, Julie and Leann strategize to align themselves against everyone else, possibly to get rid of Eliza immediately. Back at camp, Scout and Eliza bicker about the results of the reward challenge, and the guys see an opportunity to either talk the girls into getting rid of Eliza or to permit Eliza to join their own little clique.
When Leann and Julie return on a helicopter, they relish that the guys are away from camp, and reveal chicken wings that they brought back just for the women. Later, they tell the boys that they brought back only the bones… And then Eliza catches a pig, a little white one with black spots, or rather, retrieves it with the team’s tree mail. The letter along with it says that they can’t eat him, but rather have to take good care of him.
IMMUNITY CHALLENGE: Puzzles. Actually, one puzzle in different configurations. Those who fail to complete the puzzle within the time limit are not permitted to move on to the next round. In round one, Chad, Chris, and Sarge are eliminated. In round two, Scout and Twila are eliminated. In round three Eliza is eliminated. In round four Julie and Leann are both eliminated and Ami wins immunity.
TRIBAL COUNCIL: Ami openly admits that she will vote for Sarge, because he is the strongest man, and at this point does not have immunity. Scout talks with Chad and Chris about getting rid of Eliza, and Eliza chats with Ami about her own paranoia. Twila and Sarge have it out as well about their own loyalties to each other and the mutual blame ends up on Julie. Twila expresses her regrets about letting the men down. Then Twila and the men contemplate joining with Eliza to get rid of the rest of the women first.
Before the revealing process, we find Chris voted for Sarge. In the end the vote is seven for Sarge, one for Julie and one for Eliza. Sarge becomes the first member of this season’s jury.
Next week: lots of rain, Scout makes a move to amalgamate the guys and girls.
