RE: Pub night with Jack Layton (v13 i17)
I would like to thank Mandy Gardner for her timely tribute (in light of the probable early federal election) to one of the few bright lights of Canadian politics at the moment. Jack Layton is exactly the sort of person – bright, articulate, and above-all upbeat and optimistic- who may be able to gain some much needed popular support for progressive views. Too many of our recent populist politicians have been narrow-minded, greedheaded corporate puppets, and too many of our forward thinking political parties have pinned their hopes on ineffectual, detached leaders. Having somebody of Mr. Layton’s calibre on the side of the angels gives even us political cynics a glimmer of hope.
