Fourth-year student Hasmeet Singh Chandok demonstrates that sometimes hobbies can overtake educational pursuits. In a recent article from University Affairs, “A student-led bhangra group is dancing its way across the East Coast?and the internet”, computer science student Chandok is revealed as one of the founders of the popular Maritime Bhangra Group. Chandok and his group began dancing as a way to teach people in Atlantic Canada about Sikh culture. The group’s colourful and joyful videos, some of which were filmed on Dalhousie University’s campus, have become an internet sensation, approaching 1 million viewers for the Snow Shoveler Bhangra.
