AUSU celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, with special events to mark the occasion planned for July 11 to 15. This week we peek back at some of AUSU’s history, including its 10th-anniversary AGM and an unexpected office move.
A history both “turbulent” and “interesting.” An AUSU press release outlines the upcoming 10th Annual General Meeting in 2003. “This AGM, of course, is of special interest since it represents our 10th anniversary. AUSU was incorporated in late 1992 by a group of students who worked alongside the university to create a student union that would be an independent advocate for students, and our first AGM was held in November 1993.” AUSU’s 10th Anniversary AGM – What is it all about?, April 23, 2003.
Pack up your troubles. Former AUSU council president Debbie Jabbour describes AUSU’s unexpected office move in early 2003. “Initially we had been told the move would occur in the first week of May, and we began the long packing process with that date in mind. We were barely into the second week of April, however, when we were told that the move date had been moved up – and we were to be out the very next week! ” AUSU Moves, June 25, 2003.
