Research Assistant Opportunity—Nursing Conclusions From the Literature on Rural Health Care

Rarely does the value and difficulty of our cherished Canadian health care system appear more vivid than in the challenges facing our nurses.  News reports lately reveal that nurses are pressed for time, often pressed into service beyond their usual capacities and, in rural BC communities like Merritt, Lillouett, and Oliver, often forced to accommodate ER closures due to lack of doctors for the night or weekend.

Dedicated to rural concerns for nurses, this opportunity will “support a funded scoping review within a research program examining educational opportunities for rural and remote nurses in Canada.” With diligent inquiry and writing, the successful applicant will utilize the “Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) approach” to elucidate the ways and means rural nursing functions – the better to suggest policy prescriptions, presumably.  The successful applicant’s role will be to work with Dr. Petrovic (and her team) and be “expected to be able to comprehend and extract data from research to be analyzed by the larger research team.  They are expected to contribute to disseminating results by developing presentations and writing research manuscripts.”

For this role an undergraduate degree is required, nursing experience preferred, and sterling research and writing skills are a must.  Please send your cover letter, unofficial transcript, skills and interests list, and contact information for two references to Dr.  Kristin Petrovic at kpetrovic@athabascau.ca.  Good luck!
